There are lots of exciting changes happening in the Learning Pod and throughout the school. At the end of last year Broulee Public School staff began training in teaching synthetic phonics. In recent years studies have shown the importance of teaching phonics and synthetic phonics has emerged as the best way to teach students to read. Here at Broulee we are delivering synthetic phonics in several ways, in whole class programs and small group programs like MiniLit and Learning Support phonics programs. We have begun using decodable readers which assist children with learning to decode (sound out) words. We will keep in touch throughout the year with lots of pictures and stories from our various phonics programs.
